Whether you are a speaker on controversial topics or you pound out Op-Eds on your keyboard, one thing is for certain - you'll never run out of things to talk about in the US. Our society is filled with opinions and lots of BS, and since we have free-speech, anyone and everyone can have their say. The other day, I was at a coffee shop, and someone told me they watched to Fox news a lot. The other person I was talking to rolled their eyes, and couldn't believe that anyone would be dumb enough to watch that news station.
Well guess what, I watch Fox news, along with CNN, MSNBC, and CNBC, and I've also been known to tune into the BBC, local news, and even Russian TV. When I surf online news each day I scan the headlines in India, China, and even in the Middle East on Al Jazeera. Indeed, I can tell you this, I roll my eyes at almost everything I view in the media regardless of the venue or political slant. Indeed, sometimes I can't believe some of the speakers and people who make it onto some of the shows. Okay so, this article is about "writing and speaking" and some of the secrets to writing good editorial and op-ed pieces, and producing that type of content.
As an online article author who likes to write editorial pieces and post articles to opinion pages, I can tell you that watching the television, or doing a little surfing online each day will give you more than enough material. In fact, not a day goes by that I can't come up with five new articles based on some of the insanity that's been discussed in the media. Yes, it's been said that it is a lot of; "sound and fury signifying nothing," and while that is really true, there are far too many people who watch these programs and adopt these opinions as their own.
Just as the individual who rolled their eyes on Fox news insinuating that the other person was indoctrinated to right-wing thinking, I could say that they were indoctrinated towards left-wing thinking, and as I got to talking to them, I could tell they were literally a socialist in training. I even got him to admit that they had voted for Barack Obama, and you know that's hard to do these days because even though almost half the people voted for the gentleman (of those people who actually voted) hardly anyone these days will ever admit it.
You see, it hardly matters which side of the political spectrum you are on - you might be on the wrong side of things, or you may lean towards the right. Either way you will have plenty to write about countering some of the BS in our society, and luckily it never stops, it's everywhere, it's omnipresent. Indeed I hope you will please consider all this and think on it.
